About the workshop

This workshop is open to anyone and all are welcome, singers and non-singers alike: singers who wish to learn about this richly rewarding repertoire; and even non-singers, fascinated by the idea of the chant and interested in cultural history. Those with a knowledge of the chant will have the chance to deepen their insight and their contribution will be invaluable.

The day concludes with an informal performance of a sequence of chant: THE SONG OF ANGELS

John Rowlands-Pritchard
The day is led by John Rowlands-Pritchard who studied mediaeval song with Professor John Stevens and early Gregorian chant with Dr. Mary Berry at Cambridge, illustrating lectures and broadcast talks for both. Experience as a Cantor with the Schola Gregoriana of Cambridge included recital work and recording in many European cathedrals and abbeys, and the Vatican. He has directed Chant Experience Days for St Andrew’s University, Leeds University, Bangor University, for the Cathedral Choirs of Blackburn, Glasgow, Ely, St David's, Durham, Salisbury, Exeter, Chichester, and Chester; for the Royal School of Church Music, for Adult Education Colleges, English Heritage, and Benslow Music Trust; for Southern Cathedrals Festival, Hereford Three Choirs Festival, and Worcester Three Choirs Festival.

'Explore Your Voice' at Cooper Hall, Frome

Each year The Cooper Hall Foundation offers an eclectic range of one-day  workshops for singers of all abilities. Based in the grounds of Selwood Manor, Cooper Hall is a bright, intimate performance space with a wonderful acoustic and beautiful piano.

All our tutors offer a broad depth of experience running choirs and workshops throughout the country and each brings a unique mix and blend of  songs and techniques to enable you to sing new songs as quickly as possible. Other than our “Going Solo” workshop, all songs are taught by ear, so there is no need to read music; making the workshop environment relaxed and accessible.

Treat yourself or someone you know who loves singing to come along and explore the voice through a range of genres. Discounts are available for booking more than one class, so it's a perfect way to banish the winter blues by having a monthly dose of spirit lifting and joyous singing in calm and surroundings.

All workshops days are fully inclusive of all refreshments throughout the day – teas, real coffee and delicious home baked cakes and a hot, home cooked lunch. Think of these as “singing pamper days” where all you have to do is come along and enjoy singing in our creative haven.
